Decapod

Introduction and Background

Decapod
Decapod provides the facilities to tackle material such as small journals, original source materials in the humanities and social sciences, non-journal periodicals, and more.

Description

The project is focused on building a low-cost digitization solution that will allow for rare materials, materials held in collections without large budgets, and other scholarly content to be digitized into a high-quality PDF format. This project will work to incorporate the hardware and software necessary to accomplish this goal.

The aims of decapod are to provide the facilities to tackle material such as small journals, original source materials in the humanities and social sciences, non-journal periodicals, and more. There are barriers to this content being available, these are, the cost and complexity of scanning, the collections have limited audiences and limited revenue opportunities.

Decapod Tripod

  • Usable on bound or unbound material
  • Usable by local staff (non-specialists)
  • On site – take the capture system to the location
  • Made up of affordable kit
  • A deliverer of “normal” documents, i.e. documents, not image files.
  • Usable immediately on any platform (including mobile)
